AWARDS
AND RECOGNITION:
Students expend much time and energy to achieve specific
goals in academics, athletics, and fine arts. Certificates,
patches, trophies, pins, and ribbons are given to students
who have shown outstanding spirit and proficiency.
Each
quarter, there is special recognition for students with
outstanding academic achievement. Honor Roll (the top
academic honor) and Honorable Mention (the second highest
academic honor) are attainable by students in grades 4-8.
To achieve Honor Roll or Honorable Mention each quarter,
students must meet the academic criteria (grade average and
actual grade expectations) in designated core subjects and
all non-core subjects. Core subjects must have a grade
average of 91-100% for Honor Roll and 85-90% for Honorable
Mention.
Also, to be eligible for Honor Roll, every Core and Non-Core
subject must have an actual grade of 75% or higher; to be
eligible for Honorable Mention, every Core and Non-Core
subject must have an actual grade of 70% or higher.
Core
subjects in grade 4 include: Religion/Memory,
Reading/Vocabulary, English, Math,
Science, IN History, and Spelling (7
courses).
Core
subjects in grades 5-8 include: Religion/Memory
[Confirmation, gr. 8], Literature (includes Spelling
and Vocabulary), English (includes Writing),
Math, Science, and Social Studies (6
courses).
Non-core
subjects in grade 4 include: PE (Physical Education), Music,
Chorister (choir), Band, Handwriting, Computers, and Art.
Non-core
subjects in grades 5-8 include: PE (Physical Education),
Youth Choir OR Art/Music Appreciation, Band, Computers, and
Art.
Students
who achieve Honor Roll all four quarters are recognized at
an Honors Breakfast in May. An invitation will be extended
to those students and their family members.
A valedictorian and
salutatorian are recognized in the eighth grade year.
These two awards are given to individuals with the highest
(and second highest) average grade percentages in the Honor
Roll core subjects from grades 5 – 8. |
