Grades
5-8 Choir:
Youth Choir is our 5th
-8th grade choir. Students in grades 5-8 may
choose to participate in the choir (not mandatory), or they
enroll in a Music Appreciation (1 semester) and Art
Appreciation (1 semester) for the year. While this choral
experience is voluntary, the students are expected to follow
through with their commitment to the choir for the school
year once they have enrolled. The Youth Choir experience is
an extension / expansion of the skills learned in
Choristers. Students will be challenged (vocally &
musically) to develop their skills in range, tone, harmony,
and theory as they work through increasingly more difficult
musical selections throughout the year. They will be
exposed to a variety of sacred and secular music, singing in
a number of different settings (i.e. worship services,
choral workshop demonstrations, concerts, music festivals,
possible CD recording sessions, other).
The Youth Choir practices once a week during
the school day. All choir members are expected to
participate in our 8:30 a.m. worship service once a month
(typically the second Sunday, but check the calendar). Each
month, their rehearsal/training culminates in singing for
this worship service, therefore it is considered part of the
“academic experience” (the quarterly report card grade is
affected by attendance/participation on those Sundays).
Youth Choir members are also expected to be present for any
other “special singing engagement/performance” during the
year. |
